Welcome to the guide

Quick jumps

If your institution is not listed here then do the right thing and contribute!

Corrections, updates and new contributions are most welcome. Please send them direct to me via email at remove.atm.me@phys.unsw.edu.au.

Please note

In the guide when I say "in designated areas only" it means you must park in the space set aside for motorcycles. However "designated areas provided" means space is provided for motorcycles but the contributor did not indicate if you must park in these areas.

Information are provided as is, without warranty of any kind. If you get booked, don't expect the contributor or me to pay the fine for you. The prices quoted were current at 1996 and are obviously no longer up-to-date. Further enquiries should be directed to the contributors, not the compiler of the guide. Many of these contributors have since moved on from their respective institutions, so why don't you contribute and help keep this guide updated?

This guide is freeware. Feel free to download and distribute, but please do not alter without asking.

Compiled on 15 March, 1996. Last updated 28 April, 2008.

Riders sometimes "create" their own parking areas. You may wish to follow the "herd instinct".
Situation
If you do not park in the designated areas then you will get some warnings. They might tow your bike away after a few warnings.
It is easier to park on footpaths just outside the campus, for free.
Beware of the parking area outside the "1888 building". It is a high theft area and the gate closes at 11pm..

Parking area
There are several bike areas on campus. Some are more central than others.
1. The Michie Bike Park (where the UQMC notice board is) on the roundabout just across from Anatomy.
2. Small undercover area near Molecular Biosciences.
3. Next to Hawken Engineering Library.
4. Dirt bike park near Joyce Ackroyd Centre.
5. Near the glasshouses (may have been removed).
Situation
Ease of parking depends on the time of day. If you persist you will eventually find a space somewhere. Parking situation is deteriorating, bike areas are being removed and bikes are becoming popular.
Rego numbers are recorded on portable computers. Occasionally checks for bikes and they will book if you are unlucky and not registered. One way maybe to park with the bike's tail right up against a wall.
Sticker is supplied but you don't need to display it.
